Proverbs 16:9 – In his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps…
“Life with God at it’s core is about giving your life up to something bigger and more powerful. It is saying at every turn that God knows better than we know, that his Spirit will lead us in ways that we couldn’t have predicted” “Trusting God with the unknown”. Savor by Shauna Niequist, page 76.
We have a lot going on in our crazy life right now. Some of it great, some of it just a little tough. I am sure many of you can relate to this…Some days I feel like I am on edge all day and other days I am at complete peace.
Now I know that each day I should be at complete peace trusting God from minute to minute, but my “humanness” gets in the way and I worry. BUT as I read this devotion by Shauna Niequist, it was a great reminder for me! To trust, to wait, to just take a day at a time and do what I can…My circumstances should not be my gauge for my joy and my peace, I know this in my head but many days, my heart has a really tough time grasping this. I love these verses because they remind me of God’s perfect love for us, ALL THE TIME!
1 John 4:16 & 18 – …(16)God is love…(18)There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We must remember that He is with us and walking beside us each day and He LOVES us!
(I love to listen to music and a few songs that have spoken to me on this journey are “Gravity” by Jenn Johnson (Bethel Music) and “Even If” by MercyMe. I could go on, really the whole album by Jenn & Brian Johnson is great. If you get a chance take some time and listen to them).
MUFFINS AND MORE…
So, for the past few days I have been baking. Again preparing for our EXCITING, upcoming wedding and the weekend of guests that will be coming and going from our home.
The Blueberry Muffins and Morning Glory Muffins are all made and in the freezer ready to go. I actually made some English Muffins the other day as well and they are so good!!! All these recipes came from a cookbook that we bought when we were in Napa, CA. (For many years this was an yearly trip we made on our anniversary). The hotel we usually stay in was a quick walk to the Model Bakery and a few years ago we bought their cookbook. The Bakery is so amazing, if you are ever in Napa, I encourage you to visit!
I even tried my hand at making croissants again. A year or so ago Roger and I took a cooking class at Sur La Table and it was on making croissants. It was a lot of fun and I haven’t tried them in awhile…it is definitely a work in progress but fun to try.
Then I recruited some help, Roger’s sister, Tracy, who has been in the kitchen with me many times coming up with new recipes and his mom, Margaret. We made some Ricotta Cookies (Hannah’s Favorite), a recipe from Roger’s Mom that is so amazing!! And some Tea Cake cookies which I was not really looking forward (a lot of rolling) to making. When you have company in the kitchen it is so much more fun and makes it not feel like so much work!
Forgive me for saying this again, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE to cook. I do not have that same love for baking. It has always been a chore for me. I am sure many of you can relate, you may love baking but not enjoy cooking? I have always determined it is because you are so limited with a recipe. There isn’t the freedom that there is when you cook. Oh well, having help always makes it feel better. And I have to say I always bake things and then think that really wasn’t that bad…haha…
Today I hope you enjoy the pictures and have a peace of knowing the God is in control and he LOVES YOU!!
